Get ready! The Junior Women’s Association of the Tulsa Boys’ Home (TBH) will host the first ever Derby Dash 5k run on Saturday, March 28, 2015. The run will take place at Turkey Mountain and will begin at 9:00 a.m.
The attendees in the Derby Dash 5k Run will honor all young men at the Tulsa Boys’ Home. The mission of the TBH is to provide the highest quality residential care for young boys needing placement outside their home, for the purpose of developing well-adjusted, responsible adults and strengthening the family.
5k Run/Walk – $30 adult and $15 child
1k Fun Run – $25 adult and $10 child
Not a runner or out of town during this special event? Stay connected and purchase a t-shirt for only $25! Individuals and organizations interested in sponsoring the inaugural TBH Run may contact Lauren Leikam.
Each year, the TBH provides services to approximately 180 boys and their families. The majority of the residents are placed by the child welfare division of Department of Human Services. TBH has served 12,000 boys in their 95 year history, and its goal is to break the cycle of poverty, abuse and neglect that is often passed from generation to generation. TBH’s excellent work is supported by many families and the children of the children that once lived, and were healed, at Tulsa Boys’ Home.
The members of the Junior Women’s Association (JWA) give their time, talents and love, and resources. In the1950s, JWA organized a Christmas card sales program that continues today. Members of JWA find enjoyment in providing clothing, celebrating birthdays, and hand-picking holiday gifts for each boy. JWA enjoy their special monthly lodge visits when members have the opportunity to build supportive and positive relationships with the TBH boys. During these special visits there are activities like game nights, football watch parties, pumpkin carving, and holiday decorating.
