Tulsa OK Powwow 64th Annual Event
This historic event has come to Tulsa each year in July since the 1950’s. It is one of the most popular and attended events among the community. While many years have passed and many traditions have been lost, this event brings them back through memories and ceremonies. Most importantly, it’s a great way to learn about the Native American heritage through art, foods, dance, music and much more.
There will be lots of native food vendors to tryout and over twenty authentic Native American artists showing off their stuff. As a result, you can buy special gifts for special people in your life. Most noteworthy about the event, there will be over 50 different tribal nations showcasing their traditions. And especially relevant, the Comanche Little Ponies will kick off the day with a gourd of dance competitions.
Dance competitions will be held throughout the day in twelve categories of three age groups. There will be a spotlight on the tiny tot division. Because, let’s face it, they are too cute. Other categories also include the women’s jingle dress, the traditional men’s southern straight and the Warrior Challenge men’s fancy dance. Many top dancers are expected to compete on Saturday in these categories. Therefore, this is expected to be an exciting dance challenge not to be missed.
