Thanksgiving Week in Oklahoma- News
Thanksgiving week is a big travel week in general, across the United States, but most recent news predicts that this Thanksgiving will be a record-breaker! Millions of people will travel dozens of miles to be with their families over the holiday season. In Oklahoma, specifically, a projected 615,000 people will be traveling throughout next week. Wow! That is a lot of people. Wonder why Oklahoma will be so busy?
First of all, our gas prices are great right now. Running around $1.82 a gallon, filling up your tank for travel is much more affordable. Secondly, our economy is showing some improvements overall. When the economy is up, so is affordability for travel. Our current gas prices put us at the second lowest compared to other states and around 12 cent cheaper a gallon than this time last year. This amount of travel will be record-breaking because travel has not been this high since 2007. Almost a whole decade.
This is important as an Oklahoman for several reasons. The roads will be busy so you will want to plan for efficiency and safety. With heavy traffic, safety is of the utmost importance. For planning purposes, you want to be aware of the increased travel level for traffic holdups. Tulsa is a large and booming city, be prepared and plan ahead for traffic changes. You don’t want to be late to your fresh Thanksgiving meal! The less you feel rushed, the better chances you have for safe travel. Oklahoma travel has continued to increase around the holidays for the last 8 years, in terms of automobile travel. Be safe out there!
The airports are another busy means of travel. They are predicted to be busy all week so if you plan on picking up family from the airport, be in tune to travel delays so you can plan accordingly.
Thanksgiving may be a busy time of the year, but for all the right reasons. So remember, be safe, be kind, and be patient through the holiday season as everyone wants to be with their family! Hopefully, Thanksgiving Day will be a quiet one in Tulsa, OK spent with loved ones.
