The City of Bixby is located in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, just south of Tulsa.  Bixby real estate offers the charm and lifestyle of a small community along with the cultural and recreational benefits of being next door to a major metropolitan area.  Its nickname is “The Garden Spot of Oklahoma” because of a rich heritage.  It is one of Oklahoma’s fastest growing communities, but it remains a sod-growing center and a popular location for purchasing fresh vegetables.

Brief History of Bixby
Bixby became a government town site with a post office in 1899.  Sitting in the Indian Territory of Muscogee Nation, Bixby real estate got its name after Tams Bixby.  Tams was a chairman of the Dawes Commission.  The original 80-acre town site was approved in 1902.

The river bottom land is what attracted many settlers to the area.  The Midland Valley Railroad set tracks in 1904 and created a depot in Bixby.  The city was then split into two towns by the factions for a short time.  The town was purposely surveyed in hopes that the newly laid roads did not align with the older ones.

Bixby real estate was incorporated as an independent, self-governing town in 1906.  In February of 1907, five aldermen and the first mayor were elected.  On Main Street, a two-story schoolhouse made of brick was built in 1911.  Bixby Central Elementary is located close to the   original site.  In 1911, a bridge for traffic was built atop the Arkansas River and, for a time, was said to be the longest bridge west of the Mississippi River.

Bixby real estate is served by the Bixby Independent School District.  The community boasts one of the area’s finest public school districts.  There are three elementary schools (Bixby North Elementary, Central Elementary and Brassfield Elementary), one middle school (Bixby Middle School) and one high school (Bixby High School).  Many students usually have ACT scores that are above the national and state averages.  The schools available for higher education in the area are a major junior college and three universities in Tulsa.
