Tragic details emerge after death of TV actor aged 21: ‘Unsurvivable’

A popular young TV actor died from “unsurvivable” injuries when a car being driven by his friend – at more than twice the speed limit – hit a tree.

Twenty-one-year-old British actor Reiss Jarvis died on November 10, 2021, after the driver lost control at “excessive speed” on a remote and unlit road, an inquest has found.

Jarvis was best known for his work in the 2017 BBC drama, Murdered for Being Different, a true-life series based on the 2007 murder of 20-year-old British woman Sophie Lancaster.

The inquest, at Rochdale Coroner’s Court on May 10, was told the crash happened about 8.40pm on a remote and dark road.

The car was travelling at 110 miles per hour (177kph) – more than double the 50 mile (80kph) speed limit, police told the court.

There were no “significant defects” to the car, and no evidence that other vehicles were involved.

“At the speed they were driving, if anything did happen, or a loss of control were to occur, it would be very hard for them to regain control of that vehicle,” said police Sergeant Neil Pennington of Greater Manchester Police.

Pathologist Dr Abdul Ganjifrockwala said the cause of death was “multiple fatal injuries as a result of a road traffic collision”.

He found no signs of alcohol or drugs in the driver’s system.

Assistant coroner Michael Salt concluded: “This case highlights again the dangers of excessive speed on the roads.

“On this occasion, a very talented and loyal young man has lost his life and the only explanation we have is one of loss of control of the vehicle through excessive speed.”
